Shah Rukh Khan receives first global Icon honor at Sharjah International Book Fair 2022

Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan attended the 41st Edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2022 taking place at the Sharjah Expo Centre. What else to look forward to;

Shah Rukh Khan joined SIBF, The Sharjah International Book Fair, one of the biggest and most famous book fairs in the region. It hosts the most thrilling literary event in the Middle East which includes activities, conferences, programs, exhibitions, and guest appearances.

The primary goal of the event is to promote reading among people, particularly the younger generation, by providing them with high-quality books at reasonable prices.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan attended the SIBF 2022. The Sharjah Book Authority announced Khan’s appearance at the book fair on their official Instagram page.

“The legend of Indian and International cinema is coming to Sharjah!” announced the Sharjah Book Authority on their Instagram page.

He received the book fair’s first Global Icon of Cinema and Cultural Narrative honor.

The award is an initiative of the book fair to recognize and honor people whose career efforts have assisted in breaking down barriers across cultures and whose contributions to the arts have strengthened cultural ties between various identities.

Rare manuscripts on display for the first time in the Middle East

Hundreds of years old Arabic and Islamic books, some from the 1200s, are on the display for the first time in the Gulf during the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair.

The 12-day event features a special display of the works in association with the Ambrosian Library and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Italy.

A 17th-century cosmology manuscript titled “Miracles of Existence” and embossed and gilded Quran pages from the 15th and 16th centuries are both be on display. A rare ancestry book with the Prophet Mohammed’s family tree included will also be displayed.

The fair is also exhibiting a part of Firuzabadi’s Al Qamus Al Muhit, one of the most renowned Arabic dictionaries from the 14th century.

However, the oldest manuscript at the exhibition is the 13th-century manuscript by Makki bin Abi Talib Al Quaisi on the sciences of the Quran titled Uncovering The Faces of The Seven Readings.

Published in 1753, François Ogier’s book titled The History of Arabs under Caliphates is also available for historians to explore, as is Antonio de Sgobbis’ Nuovo et Universale Teatro Farmaceutico (New Universal Pharmaceutical Book), published in Venice in 1667, which features pharmaceutical practices and ideas from ancient Arab medical heritage influenced by Greek physician Galenus.

History of the event

The Book Fair was founded in 1982 to accomplish His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi‘s goal of human-centric development and to advance cultural understanding and interchange via reading.
