GCU team wins Best National Short Film Award

The Government College University (GCU) team won the Best National Short Film Award in a competition organized by the Pakistan government and ISPR among 1100+ entries from more than 70 universities of Pakistan.

The team behind this award-winning film are also Ravians who have been making GCU’s community proud. The Assistant Director of this film was Sheikh Mubashir also a member of the GCU Dramatics Club, Content Supervisor was Miss. Mariam Hassan Naqvi who was also the ex-President of GCU Dramatics Club, Hammad Javed was the assistant Director and Production Manager, and Ibrahim Hassan was the production Head.

Waleed Akram received this Award from Prime Minister Imran Khan and DG ISPR.

Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor Prof Zaidi said, “I am extremely proud to share this extraordinary achievement by an old Ravian who a very talented, amateur filmmaker is, Waleed Akram.”

One more thing which is extremely important is that Waleed Akram never received any formal education in filmmaking and still managed to receive the First Prize among all those Institutions that are giving great resources and education to their students.

He also got a fully funded scholarship to the University of California in Los Angeles to pursue his passion professionally in filmmaking. Not only that but Waleed also managed to receive two more awards for best cinematography in the documentary and best editing in the documentary.

“This is not the first time, but he and his team have been achieving various national awards from the last two years. We congratulate him on his new journey and a bright future ahead,” Professor Zaidi said.
