A spin-off of The Addams Family, Wednesday was renewed by Netflix for a second season on January 6, 2023. After the initial release of Wednesday’s season 1 on November 23, 2022 fans have long awaited this moment.
The recent speculations about Wednesday potentially being taken over by Amazon Prime Video made Netflix’s announcement all the more exciting for viewers.

Wednesday Season 2 trailer
As part of its announcement, Netflix released a teaser to confirm the second season. However, apart from addressing how Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega) has been “mimicked millions of times across the internet,” it gives us no substantial information about the return of the second season.
Jenna Ortega reacted to the announcement by stating, “thanks to everyone that made this upcoming season possible,” in a tweet. “This has been pretty surreal, she says.
Catherine Zeta-Jones who plays Wednesday’s mother Morticia reacted to the announcement on Instagram stating, “so there you have it!!!! The best news! … P.S. Wednesday nearly smiled…it’s that good.”
Here is what the showrunners of the series, Alfred Gough and Miles Miller said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter about the new season:
“Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
Wednesday season 2 release date
Since the trailer released by Netflix left many questions unanswered we are yet to know when Wednesday season 2 will be released.
No speculations about its potential release date can be made at this time since there has been no confirmation about when production is starting for season two.
Is Wednesday season 2 on Netflix?
Days before Netflix’s announcement, rumors began circulating about season 2 being taken over by its rival platform, Amazon Prime Video. This is due to its merger with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) which produced the show.
Luckily, Amazon has confirmed that this merger with MGM will not affect the release of projects on other platforms, putting such speculations by concerned fans to rest.
‘WEDNESDAY’ will not be moving to Amazon Prime Video for Season 2.

Who are the cast members in season 2?
As Wednesday dives headfirst into another season, we expect the following characters to repeat their roles, as played in season 1.
Directed by Tim Burton, the series stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams along with the cast listed below.
- Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valeria Kinbott
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe
- Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
- Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger
- Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
- Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
- Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
- Victor Dorobantu as Thing
- George Burcea as Lurch
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams
Although Larissa Weems (played by Gwendoline Christie) died due to Night Shade poisoning there is no clear reason to rule her out of the show just yet.
It seems likely that the character could return in the second season at least in some capacity through flashbacks.
Marylin Thornhill, also known as Laurel (played by Christina Ricci) was defeated by Wednesday but there was no clear indication of her ultimate fate. Thus, it is likely that the actress could return to continue her morbid role.
What to expect from Wednesday season 2?
Who is Wednesday’s stalker?
Season one ends with a cliffhanger leaving fans at the edge of their seats with the introduction of Wednesday’s “very first stalker.”
The show has made clear that Wednesday has a limited online presence on social media due to her negative stance towards it.
The phone she received the messages on was a gift from Xavier. It is rather odd that a stalker was able to send her the ominous text messages this quickly.
However, due to her extraordinary disposition, it is no surprise that the character has gained substantial attention from those around her.
Will Tyler return in season 2?
Last we saw Tyler was in chains, most likely being transported by the authorities to what we can assume, is a maximum security prison.
However, by morphing into his hyde form, he is able to escape, which only lets us believe that he murdered the armed guards assigned to keep him restrained.
It is plausible that he will return in season two and perhaps be even more dangerous than before as the hyde now survives without a master.
Who will be the new principal of Nevermore Academy?
With the school left without a principal, it is very possible that Morticia Addams will be elected as the new principal considering that she is a former student and a member of the Nightshades.
If it so happens, we can expect Wednesday’s reaction to be a rather hilarious and consequentially disastrous attempt to remove her mother as principal. If Morticia Addams is elected as principal, the character will most likely become a regular in the series.
Is Pugsley joining Nevermore Academy?
We are aware that Pugsley and Wednesday attended the same high school together before Wednesday joined Nevermore although there is no clear indication of what the age difference is between the two. If Morticia is elected as the new principal, her son would likely join Nevermore Academy.
It is interesting to speculate Wednesday’s response to this potentially happening. On one hand, she could simply be embarrassed by her brother and try to evade him at school.
However, through the very first episode, we are shown the lengths that she would go to protect her brother. So, her reaction to her brother attending the same school as her, may not be unpleasant.
