Punjab University ranking in world is now among the best 62 percent universities

Punjab University ranking in world is now among the best 62 percent universities in the new Quacquarelli Symonds QS ranking list, which is one of the most reputable ranking system in the world.

Punjab University was among the best 78 percent universities in the world in 2018.

Vice Chancellor Punjab University Prof Niaz Ahmed Akhter said that ranking increased by 16 percent in a short span of three years.

Dr. Niaz said the world ranking of the university is improving every year due to the promotion of research.

The VC said for the first time in the history of Punjab University, 13 subjects of the university were counted in the world ranking.

Dr Niaz Ahmed Punjab University Department of Petroleum Engineering ranked among the top 100 to 150 institutions.

PU VC congratulated Chairman Ranking Committee Dr. Khalid Mahmood on the improvement in ranking.

“The ranking has improved due to the joint efforts of Punjab University faculty, staff and students,” Dr. Niaz Ahmed added.

Punjab University Spokesperson also clarified that PU ranking has been improving annually in QS Ranking, which is the accepted ranking system by Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Punjab government.

The spokesman said that PU focused on improving the QS ranking which is the international ranking system.

“PU ranking is improving every year in the QS ranking system,” the varsity spokesman said.

In March this year, Punjab University achieved new landmarks in the latest subject-wise positions of universities across the globe ranked by QS World Universities Rankings with 13 subjects in international ranking for the first time.

In this regard, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad chaired the meeting at Al Raazi Hall attended by heads of teaching departments.

The VC congratulated teachers for this outstanding achievement of the university for the first time in international ranking. He said QS ranking data stated that the university had performed very well even during COVID-19. He said through the restructuring of the university, maximum opportunities had been provided by the administration to all senior faculty members and staff to excel and work better for improvement in international ranking of PU.

PU VC also appreciated the efforts of Chairman Ranking Committee Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood. The participants also congratulated the vice-chancellor for his policies for promotion of research culture and ensuring transparency in all matters which have mainly contributed to the rapid growth of Punjab University in just two and a half years.

It may be mentioned that Hina Parvez Butt, MPA in Punjab Assembly submitted a resolution in the PA secretariat on June 4 (Friday) to inquire how PU ranking fell by 300 points and urged the assembly to appoint a parliamentary committee to probe the matter.

The resolution reads, “Pakistan’s top university graph has decreased and it is a worrisome situation. This needs to be probed urgently and there would be action against responsible persons.”

However, the PU Spokesperson in its clarification published said that QS ranking is accepted by the Punjab government and HEC and PU ranking has been improving in the QS ranking annually.
