“Meredith leaves Seattle,” Is Meredith grey really leaving the show Grey’s Anatomy?

Sadly Yes, When “Grey’s Anatomy” returns in February, Meredith Grey will exit Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but Ellen Pompeo has already begun the farewell walk.

It was revealed in August that Pompeo will only star in eight of the next season’s episodes but would continue to work as an executive producer and provide her distinctive voiceover narrations for upcoming episodes.

When is Ellen Pompeo’s last episode of Grey’s Anatomy?

The sixth episode of Season 19—the fall finale on November 10—confirmed in the preview that aired at the end of “Thunderstruck” that Meredith Grey would be leaving the show when it returns on February 23, 2023.

Even though Meredith will be leaving in the “I’ll Follow the Sun” midseason premiere, Ellen Pompeo will reportedly make eight appearances in the Season 19 finale, according to Deadline.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is not new to cast departures with Sandra Oh (Dr. Cristina Yang) exiting in 2014, Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd) in 2015, and Justin Chambers (Dr. Alex Karev) in 2020.

Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Dr. Richard Webber) remain the last original two series regulars on the show.

However, the series has consistently found ways to redefine itself, and the most recent season is no different.

But what happens to Meredith Grey?

Teased in a promo, Meredith’s journey (so far) came to an end when her character chose to leave Seattle for Boston to work with Catherine Fox Foundation to research Alzheimer’s disease, a condition that her mother suffered from.

How much money did Ellen Pompeo make?

In more than 400 episodes of the iconic primetime medical drama, Pompeo has portrayed Meredith Grey, who has seen numerous dramatic arcs, including deaths, plane crashes, near drownings, bombings, and more.

Due to the popularity of the series, Pompeo was able to negotiate a demanding $US575,000 per episode pay in 2017. Pompeo was earning $US20 million a year, in addition to a large signing bonus and follow-on contracts. She was at the time television’s highest-paid female actor.

She told The Hollywood Reporter in 2017, “As a woman, what I know is you can’t approach anything from a point of view of ‘I don’t deserve or I’m not going to ask for because I don’t want others people to get upset”.

“And I know for a fact that when men go into these negotiations, they go in hard and ask for the world.

“I’m 48 now, so I’ve finally gotten to the place where I’m OK asking for what I deserve, which is something that comes only with age. Because I’m not the most ‘relevant’ actress out there.

“I know that’s the industry perception because I’ve been this character for 14 years. But the truth is, anybody can be good on a show season one and two. Can you be good 14 years later? Now, that’s a f**king skill.”
