Liam Hemsworth to play Geralt of Rivia in the fourth season of the medieval-inspired Netflix series The Witcher. The fans are beyond disappointed and they are not holding it back.

The Witcher 3

Netflix has some good news and sad news. The good news is that we are getting The Witcher season 4 but… Our beloved monster slayer has been replaced. (Trust me, I am as sad as you are) After dominating the streaming platform since its premiere on Netflix, Henry Cavill said goodbye to Geralt of Rivia as he joins back the DC world as Superman. We will see him for the last time in season 3, which will be out in the summer of next year.

The show is a fantasy drama that was created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It centers on a mythical world where people are monsters and where soldiers’ worst nightmares come true. It features Anya Chalotra, Yennefer, and Freya Allan, among others.

The third season will be Cavill’s final appearance in the lead role. Netflix has announced that the main character will now be played by Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth.

Henry Cavill’s thoughts

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said in a statement on Instagram. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Liam Hemsworth’s Excitement

At the thought of taking on the role of monster hunter franchise, Hemsworth shared, “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honored that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Disappointed Fans

The Witcher was a video game before it was eventually adapted for television and was somewhat of a passion project for Cavill. It is based on the well-known Andrzej Sapkowski book series. Unfortunately, some series viewers do not seem to be taking the news of the recasting well and not accepting Cavill’s departure; some are worrying that his departure would cause damage to the quality of the show. Some even hope for his return.

The others outright disagreed with this change and called on the show’s producers to retract their statement, while others wished the series farewell and swore never to watch it again.“Hemsworth as the new Witcher? No, thank you let’s have henry back!” One more commented, “Time to say goodbye to him and the series,” another said.

Every fan has their way to deal with this change. Some are devastated and others cannot stop making fun of it.
