Punjab’s population would be 220m by 2040: Hashim Dogar

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Col. Rtd. Hashim Dogar has said that if population of Pakistan increases with this speed then in 2040, only Punjab’s population would reach the level of 220 million.

With this proportion of population there will be a need of 7 schools in Punjab, 66million jobs and 35000 homes on daily basis. A seminar entitled “Provincial Sensitisation Seminar for Parliamentarians on FP and High Population Growth” by Population welfare department in collaboration with UNFPA.

While addressing the participants, the minister said that education, health, food and sanitization are our major problems that are increasing with every passing day. Hashim Dogar thanked to ULEMAS who are working with population welfare department to give awareness to the people about Family Planning in the light of teachings of Qur’an.

The minister also thanked to CM Punjab Usman Buzdar for increasing the funds of population welfare department after understanding the seriousness of this massive issue.

Secretary Population Welfare, Uzma Kardar MPA, Sadia Sohail Rana MPA, other parliamentarian and officers from population department were also present there.

Shoaib Ahmed Shahzad, Technical Specalist UNFPA punjab highlighted various aspects and root causes for high Popultion growth rate in Punjab and high unmnet need. Be stress that if sufficient quantity of contraceptives are not available in Punjab with DOH and PWD then we never achieve our targets.

He appreciate that PWD actively engaging Ulema and Khateeb in 10 districts of punjab and this should be upscale in whole punjab. He also urged that with active and efficient role of DOH both departments, Punjab can’t achieve UHC and FP 2030 commitments
