Nab court awards 5-year imprisonment to accused on Rs884.57 over NICFCD scam

An accountability court on Saturday awarded five-year imprisonment to Abdul Rehman with a fine of Rs884.57 million on charges corruption in the National Industrial Cooperative Finance Corporation Department (NICFCD).

The court announced the verdict and directed officials to send the convicted to jail.

Earlier the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the reference in 2017 regarding alleged corruption and misuse of authority which was unearthed in the department.

The NAB alleged that Abdul Rehman sold illegally government land in connivance and abetment of co-accused Zahid Hussain and caused collateral loss to national kitty worth millions. Accused Zahid Hussain absconded during the course of inquiry proceedings.

The NAB Lahore had claimed more than 71 percent of conviction rate in accountability courts during 2021.

It said around 255 accused persons had been convicted through different courts during the tenure of current chairman NAB Justice ® Javed Iqbal.
