Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh of Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Punjab government on a petition challenging the appointment a retired bureaucrat Kamran Lashari as director general of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).
Judge sought a reply from the government within fortnight.
Petitioner counsel Khalid Jamil submitted that Kamran Lashari was appointed as the DG of the WCLA in 2012 for a period of three years.
He said that the government kept on extending the contract appointment of Kamran without any gap till the last such notification issued by the secretary local government on November 23, 2021 for his appointment till December 12, 2024.
He asserted that the impugned notification was illegal and Kamran was not competent to be appointed to the post under the criterion given in the WCLA Act 2012.
He asserted that this law the director general shall be a member/secretary of the authority and one of the qualifications for the members was to be a prominent, well-reputed and a resident of the walled city.
He said that Kamran was not a resident of the walled city and also faced inquiries on corruption charges. He requested to declare the impugned notification of Kamran’s fourth consecutive appointment illegal and also order the director general to return perks and privileges received by him.
