Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh of Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Punjab government on a petition challenging the appointment a retired bureaucrat Kamran Lashari as director general of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).

Judge sought a reply from the government within fortnight.

Petitioner counsel Khalid Jamil submitted that Kamran Lashari was appointed as the DG of the WCLA in 2012 for a period of three years.

He said that the government kept on extending the contract appointment of Kamran without any gap till the last such notification issued by the secretary local government on November 23, 2021 for his appointment till December 12, 2024.

He asserted that the impugned notification was illegal and Kamran was not competent to be appointed to the post under the criterion given in the WCLA Act 2012.
