Pakistan trail court aquits Czech fashion model Hluskova in drugs case

A division bench of Lahore High Court on Monday accepted an appeal of Czech fashion model Tereza Hluskova (21) by a short order and acquitted her from smuggling the 8.5 kg heroin from Lahore airport to Abu Dhabi on Jan 10, 2018.

A sessions court on March 20, 2019 had sentenced Czech model to eight years and eight months imprisonment for making an attempt to smuggle heroin from Lahore airport to Abu Dhabi in 2018. The trial court had also sentenced her to a fine of Rs113000.

The prosecution case was that the model had tried to smuggle heroin but was intercepted by customs officials who had arrested her from the airport.

The convict model’s counsel in appeal submitted that the conviction was beyond the merits of the case and without any concrete evidence against the appellant. He pleaded that the prosecution had concocted the story and the trial court wrongly relied on it and convicted the appellate.

He claimed that the trial court ignored the facts of the case and had sentenced her. He requested

to set aside the conviction and acquit her of the charges.

The division bench accepted that appeal and now Czech model would be released after the issuance of a detailed order by the high court.

The trial court earlier had also acquitted a co-suspect namely Shoaib for lack of evidence. Three other co-suspects of the case had been declared proclaimed offenders.
