Court orders no delay in TLP chief Saad Rizvi release

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh of Lahore High Court directed capital city police officer Ghulam Mahmood Dogar (CCPO) to not delay the process of furnishing surety bonds by TLP chief Saad Rizvi and submit a compliance report on Tuesday (today).

Judge was hearing a habeas corpus petition of Hafiz Saad’s uncle Ameer Hussain seeking release of his nephew ( TLP chief Saad Rizvi) despite a court order.

During the hearing of this petition the CCPO appeared before court on a short notice.

Petitioner counsel submitted that the court on October 1 had ordered for the release of Hafiz Saad but the government instead of releasing Hafiz Saad got his detention extended through a federal review board.

He said that the government had later withdrawn its application after the board learnt about the LHC decision. He alleged that the act of not releasing Hafiz Saad was contempt of the court and the detention of TLP chief Saad Rizvi was illegal.

He requested to set aside Hafiz Saad detention and directed the government to release him if not required in any case.

The detention of TLP chief Saad Rizvi had come after his organisation (TLP) staged sit-ins across the country demanding the government to expel the ambassador of France in the wake of blasphemous cartoons. The protesters had turned violent and attacked the police personnel.
