VIENNA: Pakistan Embassy in Vienna hled an event in which Pakistan Ambassador to Austria Aftab Ahmad Khokher briefed the Pakistani and Kashmir diaspora community in Austria about the recent developments in Afghanistan.
He said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was of paramount importance for Pakistan as well as the wider region. Pakistan had always persistently called for an inclusive and broad-based political solution to the conflict in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process.
Ambassador Khokher highlighted that Pakistan was facilitating the evacuation of the personnel of diplomatic missions, INGOs, international organizations, and other foreigners from Afghanistan, which had been highly appreciated by the international community, including the Austrian government. The Foreign Minister and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of European and International Affairs of Austria have called their counterparts in Pakistan recently, to thank Pakistan for facilitating the evacuation of Austrian nationals from Afghanistan.
Ambassador Khokher also used the occasion to pay tribute to the struggle of Syed Ali Geelani for the Kashmir people’s right to self-determination. The funeral prayers of the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader were also offered, in absentia.

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Qasim Khan Suri, met Roberto Fico, President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies today in Vienna.
Qasim Khan Suri said that Pakistan attached high importance to further deepening relations with Italy. He briefed about the effectiveness of the smart lockdown policy of Prime Minister Imran Khan during covid-19. While talking about efforts of the government to uplift the poor and deprived segments of the society, Qasim Khan Suri said that his Government disbursed Rs.203 Billion (USD1.23bn) to 15 million families through its “Ehsaas Emergency Cash Program”.
He said that peace and stability in Afghanistan were vital for Pakistan and the region. He emphasized an inclusive government in Kabul representing all segments of Afghanistan and respect for fundamental human rights including women’s rights. He stated that Pakistan could not afford any further instability in Afghanistan leading to more refugees’ influx and other serious security challenges.
Roberto Fico said that Austria attached high importance to its relations with Pakistan. He appreciated Pakistan for its facilitative role in the evacuation of nationals of many countries from Afghanistan. He said that the Italian government was looking forward to a parliamentary delegation from Pakistan in the Pre-COP Parliamentary Meeting of Conference of Parties (COP 26) on climate change which is scheduled to be held on 8-9 October in Rome Italy.
The Deputy Speaker is currently on an official visit to Austria for participation in the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament.
