A judicial magistrate issued bailable arrest warrants of actress Saba Qamar and singer Bilal Saeed in the last year’s case of the alleged desecration of Wazir Khan Masjid.
The magistrate issued the arrest of the actress and singer on their failure to join the trial proceedings.
During the proceedings on Wednesday, the accused counsel requested to exempt both the accused from personal appearance citing security reasons.
The magistrate turned down the request and issued bailable arrest warrants of Saba Qamar and Bilal Saeed for October 6.
The pre-arrest bail of both predators was confirmed by a sessions court on September 3, 2020.
Akbari Gate police had lodged a case against the duo under section 295 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) following a court’s direction to act on an application of a lawyer as per law and decide whether a cognizable offense was made out. This law provision deals with the offense of injuring or defiling a place of worship, with the intent to insult the religion of any class.
Complaint counsel said that the culprits trampled upon the sanctity of the mosque by their act which also sparked outrage among the citizens. He asserted that both artists could not be allowed to disgrace a worship place.
Defense counsel in reply said that the FIR was baseless and contrary to the facts. He submitted that no dance or music took place at the mosque as alleged in the FIR.
He claimed that both artists were innocent and falsely implicated in the case for ulterior motives. He requested to acquit both the artists from the charges.
