A delegation of Flour Mills Association called on Senior Minister Food Abdul Aleem Khan and the Chief Secretary Punjab.
The provincial Secretary Food and Director Food Punjab were also present in the meeting.
The delegation ‘congratulated’ the Punjab government on achieving the target of 3.5 million metric tonnes of wheat procurement in a timely and efficient manner.
The delegates also ‘thanked’ the Punjab government for the uninterrupted procurement of wheat for the flour mills.
As per the press statement issued, the flour mills managed to procure 1.2 million metric tonnes of wheat so far with the cooperation of the government.
The association demanded that now the flour mills be allowed to procure wheat in all the districts of Punjab without any hindrance as the provincial government has achieved its target.
The delegation assured the Punjab government that it would be responsibility of the flour mills association to provide flour in sufficient quantity in the market at a lower rate and this step of the government would significantly reduce the price of flour.
The Punjab government agreed that flour mills would be allowed to purchase wheat in all districts of Punjab without getting permits from the food department. However, the flour mills would be required by law to inform the relevant district office about the wheat purchased and in case of violation, the food department will have the right to take action. In addition, the Flour Mills Association should ensure that the prices of flour in the market are reduced immediately for the convenience of people.
