Punjab HED refutes Sahiwal VC removal news on corruption charges

LAHORE: Higher Education Department Punjab Spokesman has refuted the news appeared in the media regarding removal of VC University of Sahiwal on the charges of corruption and misuse of authority.

The spokesman clarified that an MPA in the Punjab Assembly session pointed out some irregularities and misuse of power by the Vice-Chancellor University of Sahiwal yesterday Upon point of order by MPA and direction of Speaker Assembly, Minister Higher Education assured the Assembly that if some specific corruption is pointed out by the MPA, an enquiry may be initiated against the VC.

The Punjab Assembly asked the department to give the additional charge of VC University of Sahiwal to another officer due to allegations levelled by the parliamentarians.

Raja Yasir Humayun assured the house that the appointment process of permanent VC of Sahiwal varsity is already under process.

However, till the finalization of the process of appointment on permanent basis additional charge of University of Sahiwal will be given to some other vice Chancellor by replacing Vice Chancellor University of Okara.

Spokesperson further clarified that all universities are Autonomous bodies and their Vice Chancellors are fully authorized to perform their official tasks independently but within the limits of prevailing laws of the country. HEC and HED only involve themselves in their matters if some irregularities or allegations are placed before them.
